When I went in to do the paperwork, they added an additional $12 to the original price because it is a “smart unit.” It is still a good value but would have liked to know the actual total before reserving. The facility and unit itself are nice, and I was set up with a unit on the first floor by the loading dock, which is super handy. The staff were very nice and helpful so I feel at ease having my stuff stored here.

I am extremely happy with my decision to rent a storage unit here. The facility is very clean. The manager is helpful. She took the time to answer any questions that I had. I reserved a unit online, and before we started any paperwork, Pam took me on a "tour" to go look at the unit and even showed me the next size larger so I could compare them. There is the ability to bring your vehicle inside the loading/unloading bay. Several carts are also available to load your items on to minimize the numbers of trips you need to take. The elevator is nice and large to accommodate larger pieces of furniture. I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone with storage needs.

I only have one complaint about StorTropolis. Every year my rates increased more than 10% while they advertised my same storage unit for much less. I requested the lower rate and the only way to receive the lower rate was to completely move my stuff completely out and into the same size unit. I played the game and got my cost decreased, but it was quite a burden and took about 4 hours of my time to do it. The new unit pricing is comparable to other companies; however, the increase cost for existing customers is extremely unfair (as marked above). If StorTropolis changes this treatment of existing customers, I would recommend them to others. I guess I will know within the year.
Attempted to rent online and ran into repeated website errors (“Error retrieving fees”) across 3 different cards and 2 devices. Since the issue was clearly on their end, I called to complete the rental. At the very end of the call, the agent mentioned a $29 “one-time admin fee” that does not appear online. I explained multiple times that I had no issue with a fee if it were disclosed, but I shouldn’t be charged something I would not have paid had the website worked. I even told them I had screenshots showing the fee was not disclosed online. No acknowledgment, no flexibility. I called again to give them another chance and spoke with Brian. Same response. Instead of addressing the actual issue, he pivoted to talking about insurance, which was completely irrelevant. When I asked for a supervisor, he said, “They’re just going to tell you the same thing.” That’s an unacceptable response from customer service and shows zero interest in resolving concerns. After speaking to his supervisor, he came back and said they could waive the $29 fee, but then added there is a $12/month “smart unit” fee that is also not listed anywhere on the website. I read through all FAQs. When I questioned Brian about this, he responded that he didn't know, and he wasn't the business owner. I also asked if I could pay for a year in advance and by the first agent was told no. When I told Brian that he asked me who told you that, giving the impression that I could pay for the year in advance. My experience with Startropolis Shawnee started at frustration and ended with happiness. I had originally rented a unit in Lenexa, but it did not work for the items I had to store. Fortunately, Scott from Shawnee was there and said we can fix this. He sent me to Shawnee where I got the bigger storage I needed. Scott was super pleasant and a good problem-solver.
Scott was great to work with. The units were well maintained and clean. Moving in was convenient and quick. A well run business that caters to the customer.
Stortropolis is such a well kept storage business. Scott is so kind and personable and always offering good conversation. I’m glad I found this storage safely tucked away in Shawnee!
The manager Scott is super friendly and helpful. When we needed to upgrade to a larger unit and even get a second unit for a month the process was quick and easy. The building itself is clean and climate controlled.
